Insider Secrets to Making the Best Frosé at Home

Summer cookouts and pool parties call for exceptional cocktails, do they not? Bonus if said cocktail can be made in a large batch to serve a larger group.

Rosé has been the hot wine of choice for the last year or so, so it’s no surprise that frosé continues to be one of the hottest summer cocktails. For those who are unfamiliar with frosé, it’s simply a frozen rosé slushie. At The Nodding Donkey, we love a good frosé and that’s why we’re offering up a few insider secrets on how to make the best one at home:

1.   Choose the Right Rosé

Don’t just go to your local grocery store and bring home any old rosé! You want to pick out a darker, richer rosé, maybe a Malbec rosé or a Pinot Noir rosé. You want a bolder color and flavor because naturally the color and flavor will diminish slightly as you freeze and blend.

2.   Add Fresh Strawberries

Add a little extra pizzazz to that frozen wine by adding fresh strawberries to the mix. The strawberries draw out the sweetness of the wine and amp up the flavor. We recommend blending fresh strawberries, a tsp. of sugar, and then a dash of water, then mixing that with the wine and freezing.

3.   Blend in an Ice Cream Maker

This may sound crazy, but you can put the strawberry mixture and the wine into an ice cream maker and let it do its thing. The result: delicious frosé in minimal time that’s perfectly blended and ready to serve!

Frosé is one of our favorite summer cocktails – what are yours?
